That was a rhetorical question, Turdball. Folks pick those freebies up to make confetti, line their litter boxes, etc.

That was a rhetorical question

Again: by "circulation" you mean that 10K copies were printed up and left in various piles and bins around town. Local businesses paid to have advertisements and listings in it. People picked one up, leafed through it looking for coupons or a crossword puzzle, decided what restaurant, cineplex or bar to go to, and tossed them in the nearest garbage pail.

The publishers boast a 10K circulation, based on the false assumption that the copies they dump off in the local laundromat are going to be read. This somewhat inflated number is used when selling ad space.

In short, it's a glorified flyer.

Even small press magazines with a 200 print run are preferable, as they will actually be read by others with an interest in poetry.

Circulation 10,000 copies a month for almost twenty years.
My monthly column and poetry in every issue for nearly twenty years.
Again, who here can top that?
Anyone who's had one poem published in a small press/indie *poetry* zine with a circulation of 100 copies.
Again, you flatter yourself, and you glorify your small press days. I was involved in small press myself, and edited a poetry and art zine for years (which was listed in Poet's Market during the mid-1990s), so I know that scene well, also.
My poetry and column was published monthly at 10,000 copies per issue for nearly twenty years.
In other words, I topped your lifetime circulation in one month.
If you had 10K monthly readers
Playgrounds Magazine had that circulation, every month for nearly twenty years, that's a fact.
Post by Michael Pendragon
you'd be more successful, and better known, than Bukowski.
That's debatable, of course.
Post by Michael Pendragon
Mickey Rourke would have played you in a movie (or, perhaps Avery Schreiber).
"Barfly" was a great movie, even though Bukowski didn't like it.

Faye Dunaway as Buk's alcoholic girlfriend, another brilliant performance from one of my all-time favorite actresses.

And so it goes.

left in piles in various stores, bars and coffee shops around town
That's the distribution method for such an arts paper, yes.
And *that* is why it's fish wrap.

Quite a bit so, although the origin was similar:

Circulation 10,000 copies a month for almost twenty years.
My monthly column and poetry in every issue for nearly twenty years.
Again, who here can top that?
Anyone who's had one poem published in a small press/indie *poetry* zine with a circulation of 100 copies.
Again, you flatter yourself, and you glorify your small press days. I was involved in small press myself, and edited a poetry and art zine for years (which was listed in Poet's Market during the mid-1990s), so I know that scene well, also.
My poetry and stories that appeared in various small press publications were read by 100s (perhaps 1,000s) of my fellow writers.
My poetry and column was published monthly at 10,000 copies per issue for nearly twenty years.
In other words, I topped your lifetime circulation in one month.
But no one read your column
You wish.

I know for a fact that they did, you shit slinging little monkey.
The point is that it doesn't matter how many copies of your poem are circulated
10,000 copies every month for nearly twenty years, you wish you could have had that reach.

Curb your jealousy, Pendragon.
Having your poem read by 10 of your fellow writers is far more significant than
More significant than having a monthly audience of 10,000 monthly readers?

Of course not, again, you flatter yourself, you shit slinging little monkey.

Dream on, Pendragon, and feel free to continue to indulge your fantasy.

And so it goes.

You spew nonsense, Donkey.

If you had 10K monthly readers, you'd be more successful, and better known, than Bukowski.

Mickey Rourke would have played you in a movie (or, perhaps Avery Schreiber).

People don't read local listing papers for the "poetry."

Stop stinking up the place
Cover your ugly face

The sun shines brighter knowing that you're dead

Of course it was, Donkey. That's how all of the local listings papers are distributed: laundry mats, grocery stores, hotel lobbies, bars, etc.

Visitors pick them up, leaf through them looking for restaurant/bar ads, make their dinner plans, then toss the papers aside.

Businessmen looking for restaurants/bars have no interest in Will Donkey's rambling reminiscences about "Shadowville," Kathy, Barfield and Dark Queen, nor in your equally rambling (and even less coherent) monthly poem.

You provided filler to a local ad circular for twenty years. Whoop-de-damn-do.

I had a few thousand readers a month, easily, which is more in one month than you've /ever/ had, Pendragon, I know that must sting.

You provided filler to a local ad circular for twenty years. Whoop-de-damn-do.
You're expected to tear down anything I achieve, Pendragon, that's what makes you a malicious enemy of mine.

That's the distribution method for such an arts paper, yes.
Creative Loafing seems to be one of the mo9dels for such a publication.....
Definitely was.
That's how all of the local listings papers are distributed: laundry mats, grocery stores, hotel lobbies, bars, etc.
No shit, Sherlock.

No, Donkey, the circular had a few thousand browsers, and the local restaurants may have had some extra business (although there are other papers with other ads, not to mention the White Pages, so one can never really know how directly responsible any circular was). A few thousand cat boxes were lined with your "Magic Store" column, and a few thousand fish were wrapped in your monthly poem.

But even if you had a million readers, it would not give me reason to experience any sort of "sting."

You might recall that I advised GD to publish your poetry book through Amazon -- even though we were enemies at the time. The success of another does not diminish my work.

Or, as in this case, your lack of success does not enhance my work.

You're mistaken, Donkey.

As I stated several days ago, I do not make it a practice to belittle anyone else's achievements, regardless of their diminutive size. It was only after having been subjected to several of your troll posts wherein you claimed that your "accomplishments" far outweighed those of the rest of us, that I decided to put your literary "career" into its proper perspective.

IOW: You brought this upon yourself.

"the contents were focused on reading"?

WTF does that mean?

The (non-advertising) contents were filler for the ads.

The writers were not paid for their articles and/or columns. The paper was distributed for free.

The fact that you can't see it for what it was only shows how desperately you cling to your delusions.

Circulation 10,000 copies a month for almost twenty years.
My monthly column and poetry in every issue for nearly twenty years.
Again, who here can top that?
Pendragon, you flatter yourself, and you glorify your small press days.
People don't read local listing papers for the "poetry."
People read Playgrounds Magazine for it, though, since Playgrounds Magazine was an art and entertainment paper, which you continue to try and misrepresent, Pendragon.

And so it goes.

Pendragon, you flatter yourself, and you glorify your small press days.
People don't read local listing papers for the "poetry."
People read Playgrounds Magazine for it, though, since Playgrounds Magazine was an art and entertainment paper
A mighty good one at that....
The paper had a good run, nearly twenty years.

And so it goes.

And so it goes, stop whining, Michael Pendragon.

No, like I said, all you've done is whine incessantly all day, Pendragon, you shit slinging little monkey.

The fact is that I published a monthly column and poem in every issue for nearly twenty years.

The fact is that in just one month my audience was larger than the audience you had in a decade of vanity press pamphlet publication.

So try to stop your jealous whining and get over it, Pendragon, you lost this one.

And so it goes.

Why do you lie so much, Donkey?

I didn't charge writers to be in my publication (the definition of vanity press). I published many award winning, successful, well known writers.

But even a vanity press would be a cut above a local listings paper.

FACT: Your "tv show" was a laughably terrible public access program.
FACT: Your "monthly column" was in a free, local listings paper.
FACT: Your music career consisted of singing in front of a karaoke band.
FACT: Your much-ballyhooed Perky award was handed out by your local paper to every profession in town.
FACT: Your collaboration with M. Benders turned out to be the internet's biggest troll.

FACT: You've never really accomplished anything... not even a high school diploma or a steady job.

Could you possibly be a bigger loser?

Certainly not Michael Pendragon and his Xeroxed small press zines with their 100 copy print runs.

I published my monthly poems and columns at 10,000 copies a month, so in one month my circulation exceeded yours for your entire publication history, Pendragon.

As many as 10,000 readers every month for nearly twenty years, that's a lot of readers, unlike your small press pamphlets with print runs of maybe fifty copies.

And so it goes.

One shows that a circular is not missed by noting the lack of posts/articles to the contrary.

No articles = no interest.

If, otoh, you claim that the paper is missed, you need to find articles/posts lamenting its demise.

Again, no articles = no interest.
