"Under Milkwood" is the definitive poem/play/earfest on the topic, IMHO:

"With the blarney bone tressing up gossip enough to swill,
Diana pillbox spies the Holy Grail, Missy Listbottom,
Thin as an HO rail, so needful she is of an earful or more."

When I was young my Daddy would take us
over to a man's house that had HO.
His whole basement was full of it.
Gee, now we know where you got the idea.
(You ever do anything original in your life?)
He had a little town with a trolly,
and even a rocket launcher.
Did you ever launch rockets?
Shards kept getting in my teeth.
Crunchy enough for launch, though.

Yes. Actually, they may have been to HO scale V2s fresh from the smudgy pages
of an Edmond catalogue. The HO train I had didn't have a town, but rather a
scale model of 240 acres of Kansas; AKA the basement floor. I once launched a
Roquette, and a wedge of roquefort, hoping to mold some new features on the
Moon. I guess I was your average kid marking off the days in the three x five
of a deprived childhood.
I hope that you had the reinforced cardboard.
Give me a few layers of waxy and my Vermont Teddy Bear
and I'm happy.

Both Patti Smith and Dylan Thomas are referenced in a song by Taylor Swift on her latest album…. Have never listened to Swift’s music before but did enjoy the song, and Patti appreciated being referenced…
