Jim Standish Died

Jim died in April
(Robert's cruelest month)

he'd raged against night
(Dylan's rhymed delight)

hoary whiskers twitched
(Bukowski beered words)

his voice gravel-growled)
(Ginsberg merely howled)

Idaho's root wrecked
(Hass in plain haiku)

San Jose's missed mike
(Standish rode a bike)

Gentleman, poet
(RAP's romantic lead)

Au re-voir from all
with whom he played ball.

I came onto the newsgroups too late to have known Jim, but to evoke
poets of such a range, he must have been a card.

This is the beauty of the archives... if Bush and the Koreans don't
blow us all to bits, Jim Standish, his life and poetry, will live on
for the future generations.

Well said, Will. Bush and his minions make me gag more often than not.
The archives the only place all my mutterings exist. May they
continue...;>

I tripped over it while looking at former computer's saved bits on this
one.
Then again, a cabinet door flew open unaided this morning, the bathroom
radio alarm came on without asking last night and a half dozen odd
things
happened around here as if home is haunted by those who ask me to
notice
the unusual and explain it away as usual while they chuckle at my
rationales.

Jim was wise, witty and kind. I liked him. He evoked thought and good
fellowship.
