Who gives a shit if I am "banned" at your shitty little site. I never applied to be on your site so you can't "ban" me. Maybe your 3 users can't see my posts? It doesn't matter since the rest of Usenet, including Google, can. Stop embarrassing yourself by sucking up to well known trolls like George Sulzbach and Brother Will.

Because it's apparently your problem, not his.

Rochester asked Zod to delete his non-poem posts from the Sampler to make it easier for you to compile the "official poems list." It wouldn't, of course. Retro Guy has explained why: Since you're not reading on Nova BBS, you'd still be reading all of Zod's posts, those he deleted and those he didn't.

Now everyone has that explanation, and everyone with sufficient intelligence will be able to understand it. Problem solved.

You just don't understand, do you? If you delete a post on Google Groups, that post is deleted only on Google Groups; those reading Usenet on narkive, nova BBS, or anywhere else can see it just fine. Adding a delete function to nova BBS would only delete posts from that site; everyone else would still be able to read them.

Let's take it back to where it began. Zod posed a partial poem, then posted the full poem...NG asked me to ask if his partial could be deleted to make the official easier to read and post. I asked Zod to delete and said he couldn't because it wasn't posted by Google but the other thing. Solution was to post on Google from now on so as to delete if necessary. I didn't care where the fucking partial post was remaining as long as it was off the Sunday Sampler for easier access.

Seems rational, don't you think.

Then maybe zid should check and double check if he’s going to insist on posting his Sunday Sampler post on novabbs. Since there’s no delete function there.

Is that rational and fu functional enough for you to understand george, and could you find a way to explain that to zid.

Why it is necessary to post on the other thing, is puzzling..but I think Will went Zod went.

Post right here on Google for the Sample then do what you want, I couldn't care less.

Why the other place wants to read us telling each other to go fuck yourself, is beyond me and I pity the readers over there.

I post it here since it should be of interest to all.....
Why is that?
Because it came up on aapc, as you may have forgotten.
Post by NancyGene
Only you and Will use that site. We are sure that your problems with it have not convinced anyone to join.
Lack of a delete function for all of Usenet is not a problem with the site.
Then, george, when posting on the Sunday Sampler, it would be best to post under a site that affords you the delete function.
Post by Me
That’s just rational, don’t you think?
Then maybe zid should check and double check if he’s going to insist on posting his Sunday Sampler post on novabbs.
No one is insisting on any such thing, you fool.
Post by Me
Since there’s no delete function there.
Once again: a delete function on nova BBS would not delete posts from Google Groups anyway. How many times do you need that explained to you?
Post by Me
Is that rational and fu functional enough for you to understand george
You still can't understand that NG's problem has nothing to do with whether "there's no delete function there" or not. Your brain seems both irrational and dysfu-functional.
Post by Me
, and could you find a way to explain that to zid.
As I told you, I'm sure Zod understood days ago.

Not to me, since i don't post on Nova BBS. (I've been there, and I think RG's doing a great job, but I'm used to google.)

If other people on aapc have been trying to get you to delete some of your posts, then it's of interest to them; and I'm fine with you posting it for their sake.

An office is not the same thing as a work space, Will.

Had you initially said "my work space," I wouldn't have laughed at you.

It is your mangling of the language (especially when it comes across as pretentious) that has kept you playing the AAPC fool for two decades now.

I don't think there is an argument about what an office is. We here have gotten to know you pretty well..by your very words.

With that in mind, 'back to the office' sounds a bit more posh than a desk and some papers in a corner. As I sit in my 'office' right now...I have an eye on the hearings today, one out the rainy window..and will soon visit my other office, for a good read on the porcelain.

Thanks, Rochester...!
We are talking Sunday Sampler. You know damn well what goes on during the week...

She puts together the final list, which makes it easier to do.

Now if you want peace all week long, spread the word, make a list of those that are willing. It seems we have to fight with words, most likly pent up emotions from the outside world.

I shout 'fuck you' all day long on the highways and by ways. Here muscle is much easier to flex, just hit the off button.

Edward Rochester is the publisher of the Sunday Sampler. Contributors to the Sunday Sampler must adhere to the Submission Guidelines that he sets.

This is how *every* literary publication operates.

If you wish your submission to be considered for inclusion in the next issue, you *must* submit it as specified by the Submission Guidelines.

And, as is also the practice with *all* literary publications, submissions that do not adhere to the Guidelines will be returned unread.

So: rather than Zod asking on appc, and having Retro Guy explain it, he's supposed to email, Retro Guy, get his explanation on email, and then copy it onto aapc? Why? That sounds like a ridiculous way to handle it.

If it's "Rochester" who wants the delete function, then it's "Rochester" who needs an answer, and this looks like the easiest way to get it to him.

Since this is Usenet, it really wouldn't accomplish much. If a user deletes one of their posts, it's already travelled all over the world, and will remain on all other sites, it will just disappear from novabbs.

It also allows a trouble making user to post things, get replies, then delete. This leaves, probably intentionally, the users replying looking like they've messed something up. Then the original poster comes back as says they said something else, and the trolling continues.

I will and do ban a very small amount of posters when it's brought to my attention that they are either impersonating someone with what appears to be the intention of making them look bad, or someone who's whole purpose seems to just be to disrupt a group with mass amounts of offtopic posts (like tim bruening in rec.arts.drwho).

I threw novabbs online just as a simple outlet for some of the groups my servers carry to be available on clearnet. It's not a site of primary interest to me, just a way to make it easy for some users to see that usenet still exists, and actual conversation takes place. My attention is more on software development for an interface for i2p and tor users, where aapc is also available in a much different interface (rslight). This is where I check aapc, and just check novabbs for moderation comments and whatever issues daily.

https://news.novabbs.com/a-e/thread.php?group=alt.arts.poetry.comments

Most of us who have been posting for years (a lot of years for me) just accept small amounts of disruption in groups, it's part of usenet. I will really only address things directly pointed out to me on novabbs, and I do check to see what the person is posting before deciding whether to block.

It's Usenet, not my site, it's everywhere.

Hey, that does look great... sign in with the same account as Nova BBS?
That should work. I set it up that way a while ago to sync the accounts. Hopefully it works.
Note: The software is in development, bugs are expected.
I'll give it a try when I get back to the office.

Thank you for making that point. Whoever is telling Zod he needs to delete his posts, is most likely someone reading them on google groups, not nova abbs. So that won't address their complaint. If he makes a post on nova abbs, it will appear on google groups; if he later deletes it on nova abbs, it will still appear on google groups.

Oh indeed; we get that all the time, even without the delete function. (The other day, for example, a troll told me all my poems were plagiarized. They're now whining that I "can't read", because they really said only 90% or so were plagiarized.) But it does gets messier with a delete function.

it's a common troll tactic to delete a post from google, and then demand that other posters look for the messageID.

Well, that's a silly idea. "Rochester" isn't reading the Sampler on nova bbs; and adding a delete function there isn't going to help him. If he's reading on google, he's still going to see all the posts that were read and deleted there.

Google's delete function just means that, if you make a usenet post on google groups, and then delete it, the other readers of google groups can't read it anymore. Anyone reading aapc on a newserver, or another reader, will still see it.

You appear to have missed the original exchange, George.

Stink submitted a poem to the Sunday Sampler. He then asked Rochester if he could submit a revised version. Rochester granted him permission, but asked if he could delete the unwanted draft from the Sampler submissions -- in order to avoid any mix-ups when editing the final version.

Stink said that he was posting from Nova and it was Stink who then decided to ask RetroGuy to create a "delete" button for Nova users.

And to complete the story...Zod posted what was a quick portion of a poem, afraid the time would run out to post a second poem. Time was available and he posted the complete poem (why he posted a snippet of that poem, I cannot answer)...so now both were posted, the snippet and full poem. I asked if he could delete the snippet, making it easier for NancyGene to compile the 'Official' poem list. I had no idea where he was posting from, where deletions were impossible. He asked if that other source could provide delete capabilities. Which then became all this nonsense.

Simple answer-- in the future, post from Google where you can delete to your hearts content.

Too bad we don’t have the edit feature that’s on Richard’s APC.

Agree, ME...but some here are not posting from Google, that's where the problem began. Copy and hit delete is easy from Google.

Can't wait for your topic to be written on, hopefully, problem free.

Seems the Sampler is running quite nicely...traffic jams at a minimum.

How convenient. That way when you call someone a plagiarist, saying something like "you always post other people's poetry," and then want to pretend you didn't, you can always go back and change your sentence to "you post others' poetry 80% of the time."

No wonder you want a feature like that.

Well, that's the point. If Zod is using nova BBS; "Rochester" is using google groups; and NG is using a news server, then "Rochester" and NG are going to see all of Zod's usenet posts, even if he deletes them. So there's no reason for it.
