A Doggerel Daydream
In a lavender vision of make-believe life,
a daydreamer married a fairy-tale wife
in a dragonfly coracle towed by two toads.
Besotted by sonnets, obsessed with his odes,
the gossamer lady seemed willing enough,
a well-disposed doe for a poetry buck.
But she was a fey thing of fantasy stuff,
she vanished as soon as reality struck.
More poetry please.
The Dude is Well
Behind the curtains, stood Stan the Man
A man who lives without a plan.
Who seems to adlib everything,
Though once he gave a sudden ring.
You’d hear him sing to wedding bells
That swing away to gates of hell—
For she would swing the gate to lock
Away her beating heart from him,
To pass and take another name and clock,
A Jock more regular than him— a Jim
A man of plainer name and measurements.
